North Port’s “No Go Zones” have a range of explanations—nature preserves, geological survey areas, railroad property, mineral mining sectors, U.S. Military Reserve training grounds. Even tracts of land closed off due to hazardous chemical spills. No matter the explanation for any of the numerous cordoned-off areas, the result is the same—vast wilderness spaces cut off from the public where none of the townsfolk can even imagine what is really taking place.”
